Councillor's cash to help Otley Chevin Forest Park
7:00am Wednesday 22nd February 2012

A trio of councillors have given more than £1,000 to improve visitor access at a forest park.
The money from councillors Graham and Pat Latty and Paul Wadsworth (all Con, Guiseley and Rawdon) will help a number of schemes at Chevin Forest Park, above Otley, including improving a car park surface, creating three disabled parking bays and creating a new section of dry-stone wall.
A total of £1,250 came from the North West (Outer) Area Committee’s wellbeing revenue fund and will also help establish a wheelchair-accessible path to the ‘wildlife wall’ and improve access along a 100m route along the Chevin ridge at Surprise View.
Coun Graham Latty said: “The Chevin Forest Park is a fantastic resource for people from all over Leeds. We are fortunate to have it on our doorstep, but I would encourage everyone to come and visit.
“There are so many things you can do, from self-guided walks, cycling or horse riding along the bridleway, climbing and orienteering or just coming to see the scenery and wildlife.”
Coun Pat Latty said: “I am so pleased we have been able to introduce this scheme. Improving access for wheelchair users will mean visits to the Chevin are so much easier for many. Parents too can bring their children for a taste of real countryside.”
Coun Wadsworth said: “This small amount of money helps unlock further funds to greatly improve the available facilities, whilst keeping the historic character of the Chevin intact.”
